MASON DODSON

BORN TO A FAMILY OF LAB RATS IN 1982…

Mason Dodson was born in West Sacramento, California, to a family of lab mice. Raised by natural storytellers, he found his passion for filmmaking early—at age 12—after his Nana gifted him a camcorder. From backyard movies starring himself with his sister behind the lens, his love for storytelling quickly grew. He went on to study film production at UC Santa Cruz, earning his bachelor’s degree before heading to Los Angeles, where he spent several years working across the film industry—from PA to Art Department, Transportation to Acting—while continuing to write and direct his own short films.
In 2020, Mason moved to Boise, Idaho, for a fresh start. Since then, he’s been on a prolific run, directing short films, music videos, and commercials. Boise gave him space to find his voice and refine his style—one rooted in nostalgia, spiritual symbolism, and a fascination with the pre-modern world. His “old soul” sensibility echoes throughout his work, blending myth, memory, and surreal Americana.
Today, Mason works full-time as a writer/director for a commercial production company. In his free time, he enjoys playing the harmonica, collecting antiques, and watching professional wrestling.
